Privacy Policy

In short

You can play our games without giving us your name, your email or a password. Your settings and progress are saved in your own browser. When you play online, our server keeps your game record under a random ID. We do not sell information, and our own sites and games carry no advertising trackers.

Who we are

Gold Tower Games is an independent game studio, a sole proprietorship registered in British Columbia, Canada, and based in Vancouver. We make Navy & Brass. This policy covers goldtowergames.com, navyandbrass.com and our games wherever you play them, including on game portals such as CrazyGames.

Questions or requests about your information go to hello@goldtowergames.com.

What we collect, and why

Saved in your browser

Our games save your settings (sound, graphics, controls) and your progress (your captain, ships, items and doubloons) in your browser's local storage on your own device. When you play alone, this stays on your device and is not sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data deletes it.

When you play online

When you join an online match, your browser connects to our game server. To run the match and keep your progress, we handle:

  • The captain name you choose. Other players in your match can see it, so please do not use your real name.
  • What happens in the match, such as your ship's movements, your shots and the ships you sink.
  • Your game record: doubloons, items, flags, ships and badges. It is stored on our server under a random guest ID that contains nothing about you. Your browser keeps a key to that record so you can come back to it.
  • Your IP address, which every internet connection carries. While you are connected we use it to limit how many connections and new records can come from one address, to stop abuse. We do not store it with your game record.

Feedback you send

If you send feedback from inside a game, we receive your message together with the game version, the type of device and the graphics setting you were using, so we can find the problem. Please do not include personal details in your message.

Gameplay statistics and error reports

We may collect anonymous statistics, such as how long the game takes to load, when a voyage starts and when the game crashes, to make the game run better. These are not linked to your name, your email or your game record.

Visiting our websites

Our sites set no advertising or tracking cookies, and our fonts and images come from our own server. Like any web server, ours may keep short technical logs (the time of a request, the page asked for and the IP address) to keep the service secure and fix faults. We keep these logs for no longer than 30 days.

Game portals and advertising

When you play one of our games on a portal such as CrazyGames, the portal runs the page around the game, including any advertising and any account you have with it, under its own privacy policy. We do not receive your portal account details. Please read the portal's own privacy policy to see what it collects.

Where your information is kept

Our game server is hosted by a cloud provider in Seattle, in the United States. Information sent to the server is stored and processed there, where it may be subject to United States law.

Children

Our games are made for a general audience. We do not ask players for personal information and do not knowingly collect it from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has sent us personal information, for example in a captain name or a feedback message, write to us and we will delete it.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your online game record. Tell us your captain name and roughly when you last played so we can find it. We reply within 30 days.

We follow Canada's privacy laws, including British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also have rights under the GDPR, including the right to object to how we use your information and to complain to your local data protection authority. We rely on our legitimate interest in running safe, working games, and on your consent where the law requires it.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the date at the top. For a significant change we will also say so in the game.
